Love is a short four letter word yet so powerful that no letters can describe. We all need it to survive, we need it to succeed. We need it to be a better person. We need it to show compassion. Love is the solution.
If we saw on the people from Syria with love – then the war and slaughter of the people and children would not be happening. What if the tables were turned. What if you had been born in Syria? I wish people could look at each other through love. Not love as romantic but love as in seeing the beauty and value of others.
We are too busy getting our perfect lives and careers. We forget the people starving in the famine in Yemen and South of Sudan. We forget the Syrian people and the war they are fighting for freedom and their life’s. Love is not easy, with love comes heartaches when we lose or get hurt by them. Beauty is in all, look for it with your love glasses on – and you will see.
One word frees us of all the weight and pain of life:
That word is love.”
In Greek there is 4 forms of love:
- Agápe (ἀγάπηagápē) means “love: esp. charity; the love of God for man and of man for God.”Agape is used in ancient texts to denote feelings for
one’s children and the feelings for a spouse, and it was also used to refer to a love feast. Agape is used by Christians to express the unconditional love of God for his children. This type of love was further explained by Thomas Aquinas as “to will the good of another.”
- Éros (ἔρωςérōs) means “love, mostly of the sexual passion.” The Modern Greek word “erotas” means “intimate love.” Plato refined his own definition: Although eros is initially felt for a person, with contemplation it becomes an appreciation of the beauty within that person, or even becomes appreciation of beauty itself. Plato does not talk of physical attraction as a necessary part of love, hence the use of the word platonic to mean, “without physical attraction.” In the Symposium, the most famous ancient work on the subject, Plato has Socrates argue that eros helps the soul recall knowledge of beauty, and contributes to an understanding of spiritual truth, the ideal “Form” of youthful beauty that leads us humans to feel erotic desire – thus suggesting that even that sensually based love aspires to the non-corporeal, spiritual plane of existence; that is, finding its truth, just like finding any truth, leads to transcendence. Lovers and philosophers are all inspired to seek truth through the means of eros.
- Philia (φιλίαphilía) means “affectionate regard, friendship,” usually “between equals.” It is a dispassionate virtuous love, a concept developed by Aristotle. In his best-known work on ethics, Nicomachean Ethics, philia is expressed variously as loyalty to friends (specifically, “brotherly love”), family, and community, and requires virtue, equality, and familiarity. Furthermore, in the same text philos denotes a general type of love, used for love between family, between friends, a desire or enjoyment of an activity, as well as between lovers.
- Storge (στοργήstorgē) means “love, affection” and “especially of parents and children” It is the common or natural empathy, like that felt by parents for offspring. Rarely used in ancient works, and then almost exclusively as a descriptor of relationships within the family. It is also known to express mere acceptance or putting up with situations, as in “loving” the tyrant. This is also used when referencing the love for ones country or a favorite sports team.
So this type of love I am referring to is the Agape love. The unconditional love. Love is an unwritten human right. We were made of it, so why should we die without it?
Hey long time no see.
Last time I posted was in 2015, now when I am posting this the year is 2017. Time flies. While I am writing this I am actually in class. I am studying to become a nurse. I moved to a town called Hjørring. I am working in my spare time at the rehabilitation center in Frederikshavn. Well all in all, life has been good, God has been good.
I have been reflecting on this chapter in the bible Psalm 139
Psalm 139:8 (NKJV)
If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.
It tells us that no matter where we go, God is with us.
In heaven or hell. In hard times and good times. That encourages me to dare to go where he leads me. Not to question, and try to trust him. Trusting God has never been easy. We can see Jonah, Moses and even David struggled with it.
Right now I am facing a hard period in my spiritual life. I just returned after almost a 4 week long missiontrip to Zambia. It is a desert period, where it is all cloudy and foggy. I feel so empty, so left alone. In my human being I feel so lonely, it is like God has left me? I am just so angry at him. Why are we the lucky ones? Those who are not starving and living in poverty and suffering? Keep me in your prayers. Have you gone through the same kind of thing in your spiritual life?
Wow the time went so fast. Suddenly it is Christmas. This year has been so hectic, stressful and blessed. I have only bought 1 gift this year I simply did not have the time to buy the others. I am just so relived I am finally home after long time. I am just enjoying my time with my family.
I was just out working when i realized this. Our God is a living God! Jesus rose from the dead, kicked the devils ass so we could live eternally with him. He broke the chains of hell so we no longer was condemned to hell because of our sinful nature. God is my hero, nothing can stop him not even death
I just love this one, when i feel scared, worried or angry i listen to this. And this video totally makes my day, because I just realize how great out God is, how wonderful he is. He chose to send his only begotten son for us, even though we are sinners and not worthy at all of this great love and compassion. God is love! Watch it and enjoy.
Sometimes we forget how much we are worth. God send his only begotten son to die for me and you. Jesus died for you and me because he loves us, he paid for our sins with his life. Think about it, how great our God is, how great Jesus is. He takes the garbage and he makes it to diamonds. He takes the broken and fix them. He is love he is God.
